Hair Loss treatment

Excessive hair fall has many causes — hereditary pattern loss, nutritional deficiency, thyroid disease, post-illness shedding and scalp conditions among them. Treatment depends entirely on which is at work.

Understanding hair loss

What it is, and what we look at

Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. Concern is warranted when shedding increases noticeably, the parting widens, the hairline recedes or the scalp becomes visible. The two most common patterns are androgenetic alopecia, which is hereditary and gradual, and telogen effluvium, a diffuse shedding that follows illness, surgery, childbirth, crash dieting or severe stress by two to three months.

Because the causes are so different, assessment comes before treatment. Iron studies, thyroid function, vitamin D and B12 are commonly checked, along with a menstrual and medication history in women. Treating hair fall without identifying a correctable deficiency is a common reason people see no improvement.

Symptoms

You may recognise these

Gradual thinning at the crown or a widening parting
Receding hairline at the temples
Handfuls of hair shed while washing or combing
Visible scalp through the hair
Patchy round bald spots
Itching, flaking or scaling of the scalp

Causes & triggers

What tends to be behind it

  • Hereditary androgenetic alopecia
  • Iron, vitamin D, B12 or protein deficiency
  • Thyroid disorders and PCOS
  • Telogen effluvium after fever, surgery, childbirth or major stress
  • Fungal scalp infection, harsh chemical treatments and tight hairstyles

When to see a doctor promptly

Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:

  • Hair falls out in distinct round patches
  • The scalp is scaly, inflamed, painful or scarred
  • Hair loss accompanies fatigue, weight change or menstrual irregularity

How we work

Our approach at the clinic

Individualised prescribing

Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.

Detailed case taking

Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.

Works alongside your doctor

We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions

Asked before the first visit

For most people with diffuse hair fall: haemoglobin and serum ferritin, thyroid function, vitamin D and vitamin B12. In women with irregular cycles or excess facial hair, hormone testing for PCOS is added. These identify the correctable causes.

Talk to a doctor about your case

Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.
