Understanding chronic pain
What it is, and what we look at
Acute pain is a warning signal that something is damaged. Chronic pain is pain that persists past normal healing time — usually defined as more than three months — and by then it is often no longer a reliable indicator of ongoing tissue damage. The nervous system itself becomes sensitised, amplifying signals, which is why scans can look unremarkable while the pain remains entirely real.
This changes what helps. Repeated imaging, escalating painkillers and prolonged rest tend not to improve chronic pain and can worsen it — long-term opioid use in particular carries real harm with limited benefit in non-cancer pain. The approaches with better evidence are graded activity, sleep improvement, psychological approaches such as CBT, and treating any specific underlying condition. Case taking establishes what is driving your pain and screens for causes that need their own treatment.
Symptoms
You may recognise these
Causes & triggers
What tends to be behind it
- Sensitisation of the nervous system after injury or surgery
- Underlying arthritis, disc disease or nerve compression
- Fibromyalgia and other widespread pain conditions
- Poor sleep, which lowers pain thresholds
- Depression and anxiety, which both worsen and follow chronic pain
When to see a doctor promptly
Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:
- There is new weakness, numbness, or loss of bladder or bowel control — seek urgent care
- Pain comes with unintended weight loss, fever or night sweats
- Pain is escalating despite treatment, or you are taking painkillers most days
How we work
Our approach at the clinic
Individualised prescribing
Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.
Detailed case taking
Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.
Works alongside your doctor
We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions
Asked before the first visit
Because in chronic pain the nervous system has become sensitised — it amplifies signals that would normally be minor. The pain is genuinely produced by the nervous system, not imagined. Normal imaging rules out certain causes; it does not mean there is nothing to treat.

Talk to a doctor about your case
Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.

Do not stop or change any prescribed medication without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it. In an emergency, contact a hospital immediately.
