Understanding cervical spondylosis

What it is, and what we look at

Degenerative change in the cervical spine is extremely common with age and appears on the scans of many people who have no symptoms at all. When it does cause symptoms, these are neck pain and stiffness, often with headaches originating at the base of the skull, and sometimes pain, tingling or weakness radiating into the arm if a nerve root is compressed.

Prolonged forward head posture at a screen is a major aggravating factor in office workers, and correcting workstation height and taking movement breaks is a substantial part of treatment. Case taking screens for nerve involvement and for the less common but important signs of spinal cord compression.

Symptoms

You may recognise these

Neck pain and stiffness, worse after long screen work
Headache starting at the base of the skull
Grinding sensation on turning the neck
Pain radiating into the shoulder or arm
Tingling or numbness in the fingers
Weakness of grip in some patients

Causes & triggers

What tends to be behind it

  • Age-related degeneration of cervical discs and joints
  • Prolonged forward head posture at screens and phones
  • Previous neck injury
  • Occupations involving overhead work or heavy lifting
  • Sleeping with an unsupportive or overly high pillow

When to see a doctor promptly

Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:

  • There is progressive weakness or clumsiness in the hands
  • There is unsteadiness while walking, or bladder or bowel changes — seek assessment urgently
  • Neck pain follows an accident, or comes with fever or weight loss

How we work

Our approach at the clinic

Individualised prescribing

Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.

Detailed case taking

Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.

Works alongside your doctor

We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions

Asked before the first visit

Only briefly, in acute severe pain. Prolonged collar use weakens the neck muscles and slows recovery. Guided neck and shoulder strengthening is better supported for ongoing management.

Talk to a doctor about your case

Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.
