Understanding adhd

What it is, and what we look at

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition, not a consequence of poor parenting or discipline. Diagnosis requires that symptoms are present before age 12, occur in more than one setting — typically both home and school — and genuinely interfere with functioning. A busy or energetic child is not by that fact ADHD.

Best-evidence care is multimodal: behavioural strategies, school accommodations, parent training and, where indicated, medication assessed by a paediatrician or child psychiatrist. Homeopathic treatment is offered as supportive care within that framework. Hearing, vision, sleep, iron status and learning difficulties should all be assessed, since each can produce similar difficulties.

Symptoms

You may recognise these

Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks or play
Frequently losing things and appearing not to listen
Fidgeting, restlessness and difficulty staying seated
Interrupting, and difficulty waiting for a turn
Careless mistakes in schoolwork despite ability
Difficulty organising tasks and following instructions

Causes & triggers

What tends to be behind it

  • Strong genetic and heritable component
  • Differences in brain development affecting attention regulation
  • Prematurity and low birth weight
  • Prenatal exposure to smoking or alcohol
  • Not caused by screen time, sugar or parenting style, though poor sleep worsens symptoms

When to see a doctor promptly

Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:

  • Difficulties are affecting school performance or friendships
  • There is a loss of previously acquired skills
  • There are marked mood changes, aggression or self-harm

How we work

Our approach at the clinic

Individualised prescribing

Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.

Detailed case taking

Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.

Works alongside your doctor

We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions

Asked before the first visit

Controlled studies have consistently failed to show a link between sugar intake and hyperactivity, despite how strongly parents report it. Sleep deprivation, on the other hand, does measurably worsen attention and behaviour, and is worth addressing first.

Talk to a doctor about your case

Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.
