Understanding childhood behavioural concerns

What it is, and what we look at

Behaviour is communication. Outbursts, defiance, clinginess or a sudden refusal to go to school usually reflect something underneath: anxiety, a learning difficulty that makes school painful, sleep deprivation, bullying, a change at home, or an undiagnosed hearing or vision problem. Treating the behaviour without finding the driver rarely holds.

The longer consultation format allows the parents and, where appropriate, the child to be heard properly. Assessment covers sleep, screen use, school reports, hearing and vision, family circumstances and any recent change, before any prescription is considered.

Symptoms

You may recognise these

Frequent anger outbursts or tantrums beyond the expected age
Refusal to go to school, or complaints of stomach ache on school mornings
Excessive clinginess or separation anxiety
Aggression toward siblings or peers
Sudden drop in school performance
Disturbed sleep, nightmares or bedwetting after a dry period

Causes & triggers

What tends to be behind it

  • Anxiety, and difficulty naming what is being felt
  • Undiagnosed learning difficulty, hearing or vision problem
  • Insufficient or poor-quality sleep
  • Change at home — a move, a new sibling, family conflict, bereavement
  • Bullying or difficulty with peers at school

When to see a doctor promptly

Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:

  • The child talks about self-harm or not wanting to live — seek help the same day
  • There is loss of previously acquired skills
  • Behaviour follows an injury, or comes with headaches, seizures or unexplained weight loss

How we work

Our approach at the clinic

Individualised prescribing

Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.

Detailed case taking

Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.

Works alongside your doctor

We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions

Asked before the first visit

Often it is, and children pass through difficult stages normally. What suggests otherwise is duration beyond a few weeks, presence in more than one setting, or a real effect on school and friendships. Those are the signs it is worth looking into.

Talk to a doctor about your case

Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.
