Understanding acne & pimples
What it is, and what we look at
Acne is driven by four factors working together: excess oil production, blocked follicles, bacterial overgrowth and inflammation. Androgen activity during adolescence increases oil production, which is why acne is common in the teenage years — but adult acne, particularly along the jawline in women, is frequent and often hormonally linked.
Because acne is visible, it carries a real psychological weight, and scarring can be permanent. That makes early, consistent treatment worthwhile. Case taking covers the distribution of lesions, cycle-related flares in women, products in use, and any family history of severe acne.
Symptoms
You may recognise these
Causes & triggers
What tends to be behind it
- Increased androgen activity during puberty and hormonal shifts
- Excess sebum production and blocked follicles
- Cutibacterium acnes overgrowth within follicles
- PCOS and other hormonal conditions in adult women
- Comedogenic cosmetics, humidity, sweat and picking at lesions
When to see a doctor promptly
Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:
- Deep painful nodules are forming, or scarring has begun
- Acne appears with irregular periods, excess facial hair or hair thinning
- Acne starts suddenly in adulthood after beginning a new medication
How we work
Our approach at the clinic
Individualised prescribing
Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.
Detailed case taking
Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.
Works alongside your doctor
We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions
Asked before the first visit
Oily food on the face has no established role. The dietary evidence that does exist points modestly at high-glycaemic diets and, in some studies, skim milk. Neither is the main driver — hormones and follicle biology are.

Talk to a doctor about your case
Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.
