Understanding asthma

What it is, and what we look at

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airways. The lining swells, extra mucus is produced and the surrounding muscle tightens, which narrows the passage air travels through. Symptoms come in episodes, often worse at night, in the early morning, during weather changes or after exposure to a trigger.

Asthma is managed rather than cured by any system of medicine. At the clinic, case taking looks at what sets your attacks off, how often they happen, what time of day they occur, what you were treated with before, and any allergy or family history. That pattern guides the remedy selection and the lifestyle advice given alongside it.

Symptoms

You may recognise these

Wheezing or a whistling sound while breathing out
Shortness of breath, especially on exertion
Dry cough that worsens at night or early morning
Tightness or heaviness across the chest
Difficulty completing sentences during an episode
Symptoms triggered by dust, cold air, smoke or exercise

Causes & triggers

What tends to be behind it

  • House dust mites, pollen, mould and pet dander
  • Cold air, sudden weather change and high humidity
  • Smoke, incense, strong perfumes and air pollution
  • Respiratory infections such as colds and flu
  • Family history of asthma, eczema or allergic rhinitis

When to see a doctor promptly

Homeopathic treatment is not the right first step for these. Seek medical assessment if:

  • Your reliever inhaler is needed more often than usual, or stops helping
  • You cannot speak in full sentences, or your lips or fingertips look blue
  • Night-time waking due to breathlessness becomes frequent

How we work

Our approach at the clinic

Individualised prescribing

Homeopathy selects a remedy for the person, not only the diagnosis. Two patients with the same condition often receive different remedies.

Detailed case taking

Your first visit covers medical history, family history, current medication, diet, sleep and stress — all of it informs the prescription.

Works alongside your doctor

We never ask you to stop prescribed medication on your own. Any change is made gradually and in consultation with your treating physician.

Common questions

Asked before the first visit

No. Never stop or reduce an inhaler on your own — a reliever inhaler can be life-saving during an attack. Homeopathic treatment is started alongside your existing medication. Any reduction is considered only if your breathing has been stable for a sustained period, and only in consultation with your treating physician.

Talk to a doctor about your case

Bring your reports and current prescriptions. The first consultation is a full case assessment, and you will be told plainly if another specialist is the better route.

This page is general health information, not a diagnosis or a treatment guarantee. Homeopathy is a complementary system of medicine and results vary from person to person. Do not stop or change any prescribed medication without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it. In an emergency, contact a hospital immediately.
